Billionaires are something that exist in our world, a phenomena that would have seemed impossible 50 years ago, but is very real today. There are, in fact, 3,028 billionaires that are living today. The wealth of these mega rich total $16.1 trillion, not a bad sum by any means. The United States has a whopping 902 billionaires, which is more than any other country. However, this is closely followed by China, who is holding onto 516 billionaires, more than half of the United States sum. India comes in third, with 205 billionaires. No article would be complete without mentioning who is at the top of the heap. That human being would be the miraculous Elon Musk, as he has amassed $342 billion at the young age of only 53 years old. Also, an interesting note is that only 13% of the billionaires are women. They have quite a bit of work to do in order to reach parity. The richest woman is currently of the Wal-Mart clan, Alice Walton, who possesses $101 billion. It is interesting to note that 9 of the richest 10 women in the world did get their money through inheritance, which means only one of these gals really pulled themselves up by their boot straps. It is also somewhat interesting that 15 people have more than $100 billion. The air must be pretty thin up there. So, there is our summation of some of the odd statistics surrounding the richest people walking the Earth.
